In service to God we often are tempted or socially obliged to put Family first and God only after.

Here we have a small explanation from Srimad Bhagavatam which explains to us why family is not above God. Maya envelopes us so that we are conditioned to these social norms. In actuality we are only dependent on Sri Krishna.

Srila Prabhupada writes in his purports of Bhagvatam 6.16.6:
By the laws of nature, the living entity is forced to enter the semen of a father and be injected into the womb of the mother. He is not in control of selecting what kind of father he will accept. Prakrteh kriyamanani, the laws of nature force him to go to different fathers and mothers, just like a consumer commodity that is purchased and sold.Therefore the so called relationship of father and son is an arrangement of prakriti.It has no meaning and therefore it is called illuson

Further to this you may feel obligated towards the affluent family you have been blessed to be born unto BUT

* what of the Sun that provides you Light and Warmth
* what of the Rainfall
* what about the oxygen in Air giving you Life
* what about the earth producing food for you
* what of the fire of hunger and digestion without which all that your parents cook for you is futile

How can you repay all these elements of Cosmos and how you will show your gratitude to them - the way you want to show to your family ???
